In 2018, Shiseido organized an exhibition “Going beyond and participating in beauty: Shinzo Fukuhara’s aesthetics Shinzo Fukuhara / ASSEMBLE, THE EUGENE Studio” to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Shiseido Gallery. Kamimura & Co. was in charge of designing infographics to compare the philosophies of three artists as a part of the exhibition.

As a project to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Shiseido Gallery, the exhibition of Shinzo Fukuhara allows us not only to look back at his activities, but also to visualize how the legacy lives in today’s artists with machine learning. Each work is the basis of the results of the morphological analysis in each artist’s archive texts. We were in charge of finalization: choosing typefaces, making each layout, and printing direction. We analyzed the archive in a visual aspect, especially the typefaces. We also reconstructed them as diagrams. We generated new typefaces by investigating typefaces used in the archives, which later became a part of the infographics. Concerning the printing of works, we used digital silver halide printing to admire Fukuhara’s past achievements and contributions. These works were on display in the Shiseido Gallery and at the entrance of the Shiseido headquarters during the exhibition.
