Kamimura & Co. is a Japan-based multidisciplinary design studio focusing on visual identity. Our mission is to shape new cultures today with our clients who value the power of design.
——What is really essential? This question is always behind us. We see the answer to this question as a “design”, so we do research, planning, prototyping and visual production in an integrated manner. It is also important for us to recognize the current issues and construct good questions, as the needs change with the times in our society.
Visual design is almost on every aspect of communication, from screens to landscapes — we believe that they are necessary for most of us and they are not something special only for a part of people. Likewise, we are convinced that life with intelligence and culture is not a privilege for some people, but they are inherently essential for everyone. Through the process of design, we are aiming to make a creative ecosystem and to contribute to a cultured society. With these principles, we are conducting our design work every day.

TEAM
Born in 1989. After teaching himself design, Makoto worked for a wide range of clients at design firms in Tokyo. He started his own design studio in 2011 and co-founded Kamimura & Co. with Sachi in 2018. Makoto is also working as an Art Director and a Type Designer of Detail Type Foundry with a holistic approach.
After working for internet service companies, Sachi had helped Makoto’s design studio from 2014 and co-founded Kamimura & Co. in 2018. She holds a B.A. in Arts Management from Shizuoka University of Arts and Culture, and an M.A. in Comparative Civilizations in Rikkyo University. As a director of the studio and Detail Type Foundry, Sachi is working directly with her clients and partners in order to realize projects and build better relationships.
After studying Visual Communication at Geneva’s University of Art and Design (HEAD), Sam graduated from the École Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne (ECAL) with a master’s degree in Type Design in 2022. His graduation project, which was freely inspired by the Metabolism movement, encompassed both Latin and Japanese scripts. Following a year working as a teaching assistant at HEAD, he joined Kamimura & Co. in October 2023.
Florence moved to Tokyo in 2022, driven by an interest in Japanese graphic design and typography. Previously, she worked at Letterform Archive and Sharp Type Co. researching and writing about graphic design and type design. Her backgrounds in art history, journalism, and East Asian studies inform her current studies as a MEXT scholar at Waseda University’s Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies, where she is researching the CJK type design industry in East Asia.
